Workers' Compensation

Our lawyers have a wealth of experience handling a wide variety of workers' compensation matters, indicated by their certification as specialists in workers' compensation law by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.  We help clients receive the maximum amount of workers' compensation benefits they are entitled to, and frequently advocate on their behalf at proceedings before the California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board

Longshore & Harbor Workers' Compensation

Harbor workers, including crane operators, stevedores, and terminal workers, experience work-related hazards on a daily basis.  When a maritime worker is injured or suffers a work-related illness, they can recover for medical expenses and disability compensation through the federal government's Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act (LHWCA).  Larson, Vandersloot & Rivers has successfully assisted many harbor workers in obtaining compensation under the LHWCA.

Third Party Actions

Often, injured workers seek compensation through their employers' workers' compensation insurance, but the benefits that are recoverable do not adequately cover all of the workers' expenses.  Maritime workers seeking compensation under the LHWCA also face this problem.  To ensure that they are fully compensated, we assist injured workers in filing claims against third parties, such as equipment manufacturers, who are responsible for causing the workers' injuries.

Personal Injury

Larson, Vandersloot & Rivers has a comprehensive understanding of the different laws that apply in personal injury cases, and have extensive experience inside and outside the courtroom, allowing our attorneys to obtain successful results for a range of clients suffering serious or catastrophic injuries.  We provide dedicated representation in the following types of personal injury matters:

  • Automobile accidents
  • Motorcycle accidents
  • Construction accidents
  • On the job or workplace accidents
  • Premises liability cases such as slip and fall accidents
  • Products liability cases
  • Wrongful death cases

Employment Discrimination & Disability Retirement

We have represented public safety employees, including firefighters and police officers, in discrimination lawsuits based on race or age and in sexual harassment claims.  In addition, we assist city, county, and state employees seeking disability retirement from pension systems such as the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).  Our experienced attorneys can assist you in filing an application for disability retirement and address any other issues that arise during the process.

Mediation Services

To ensure individuals have the opportunity to use alternative methods of dispute resolution, we also offer mediation services.  Mediation is a type of alternative dispute resolution process that focuses on having parties arrive at mutually acceptable agreements through discussion.  Acting as a third party, a mediator facilitates the communication between the parties.
